Island Hopping in Siargao

Siargao earned its fame as the Philippines' surfing capital, but a boat tour through the Sohoton Cove National Park, with its stingless jellyfish lagoon and the natural Naked Island sandbar, is what keeps travelers extending their stay. Renting a bangka with a local captain lets you combine surf breaks at Cloud 9 with the tri-island sandbar circuit at sunrise.

What to see and do

The classic Tri-Island Tour covers Naked Island (sandbar), Daku Island (lunch stop) and Guyam Island (palm grove). The Sohoton Cove Tour (full day from Del Carmen) includes the stingless jellyfish lagoon, Crystal Cave and Hagukan Cave. Surf spots: Cloud 9, Quicksilver, Daku and Stimpy's.

Best months to visit

March to October for surfing (south swells). November to February has smaller waves but calmer water for snorkeling and Sohoton trips. Avoid late October–November typhoons.

How to get there

Fly into Sayak Airport (IAO) via Cebu or Manila. Tricycle or van to General Luna (45 minutes). Sohoton tours leave from Del Carmen (1 hour from General Luna by van).

How much does the tri-island tour cost?

Shared tours run USD 26–29 per person including environmental fees; private bangka charters for up to 6 guests are around USD 26–31.

Do I need cash or is card OK?

Cash. Most operators, restaurants and entrance fees in Siargao are cash-only. There are a few ATMs in General Luna — bring extra.
