Island Hopping in Oslob/Cebu
Oslob, on Cebu's southeastern coast, is famous for one thing: snorkeling with whale sharks at sunrise. The encounter is controversial (the sharks are fed to stay close to shore), so we recommend pairing it with the more ethical waterfalls of Tumalog and a boat trip to Sumilon's pristine sandbar to balance the experience.
What to see and do
Whale shark snorkeling (Tan-awan, 6–9am), Tumalog Falls, Sumilon Island sandbar (day-trip from Bluewater Resort), and Aguinid Falls in nearby Samboan.
Best months to visit
Whale sharks year-round, but March–May has the calmest seas. November and December bring strong winds and occasional cancellations.
How to get there
Cebu City → Oslob is 3 hours by bus (Ceres Liner from South Bus Terminal). Most travelers combine Oslob with Moalboal (2.5h drive between them) and Kawasan Falls.

Frequently asked questions
Is the whale shark experience ethical?
It's debated. The feeding-to-attract practice changes the sharks' natural behaviour. If you go, follow the no-touch / no-flash rules. Some operators offer alternative wild-encounter trips in Donsol (Sorsogon) or Pintuyan (Southern Leyte).
What time should I arrive?
6am — earlier is calmer and less crowded. Tan-awan limits visitors per day, so go on a weekday if possible.
How much is the encounter?
Around PHP 1,000 (USD 18) for the half-hour swim plus PHP 300 for the snorkel boat. Boat tours to Sumilon sandbar are USD 25–45 separately.
Can I combine Oslob with Bohol?
Yes — Liloan port (south of Oslob) has ferries to Bohol (3 hours).
